Shakti is a concept in Hindu mythology that represents divine, cosmic feminine energy. In its simplest terms, Shakti is a force.
A force so strong it evokes liberation and freedom to the female spirit. Since Shakti is said to have spurred creation, its force can be manifested to make space for new life and change. Once that change unfolds, Shakti sticks around to bring balance and peace to the newfound path that unfolds.
Shakti is power. It’s the power of the divine, fearless feminine energy who creates life and light in darkness. She takes on the form of various goddesses across the span of religion and mythology, but her unmistakable essence remains the same in every shape.
Shakti is the power of the divine, fearless feminine energy who creates life and light in darkness.
She’s meant to be emitted, shaken loose, breathed out, lifted up, and unleashed into the universe. Activating your own inner Shakti is the most powerful way to release your wild, feminine spirit and achieve your deepest desires and goals.
Through the practice of yoga and the art of creativity, you can draw upon Shakti to more freely express yourself and catalyze change in your life. With that bold, unapologetic Shakti expression comes a direct window into the true self. And achieving authenticity is precisely why we practice.
Here Are 5 Ways to Unleash Your Inner Shakti and Discover the Divine Feminine Goddess Within:
Are you wondering how to unleash your own Shakti force? It’s mostly a matter of tuning in so you can radiate it out. This article offers a few surefire ways to do just that.
1. Chant the Durga Mantra
Shakti personifies herself as the “Supreme Deity” in the form of Durga, the “Great Goddess.” She morphs into numerous forms depending on her intention. She’s capable of creating, destroying, nurturing, restoring equilibrium, inspiring, protecting, empowering, and evoking fertility (just to name a few).
Since she pretty much handles it all, evoking Durga in her signature mantra is an incredibly effective way to tap into your inner Shakti and reveal what you really need. That’s the first step of the mantra: set an intention for what you most desire.
Next, find a comfortable seat such as Easy Pose (Sukhasana). Finally, chant the following mantra for one to 10 minutes, depending on how much time you have:
Sarva Mangala Mangalye Shive Sarvartha Sadhike
Saranye Trayambike Gauri Narayani Namostute
Allow Durga to bestow upon you what you need and remove what you don’t.
Literally translated, this mantra means: “She is the most auspicious one and the one who bestows auspiciousness upon all of the world. She is pure and holy. She protects those who surrender to her and is also called the Mother of the three worlds and is Gauri, daughter of mountain king. We bow down to Mother Durga again and again. We worship her.”
Regular chanting of this powerful mantra can bring forth strength, wisdom, and prosperity. This mantra can ignite your Shakti and calm your mind. Allow Durga to bestow upon you what you need and remove what you don’t.
2. Perform the Shakti Mudra
The Shakti Mudra is a symbolic seal of the hands that’s often used to achieve serenity in the body and mind, particularly the pelvic area. It’s associated with Mula Bandha which grounds us and connects us to Mother Earth. This makes it the perfect way to tap into Shakti, the true mother of the Universe.

The Shakti Mudra is a symbolic seal of the hands that’s often used to achieve serenity in the body and mind.
To practice the mudra, press your fourth and fifth fingers (your ring and little fingers) of both your hands together. Simultaneously allow your other fingers to curl into a fist-like position, with your thumbs tucked against your palms.
The Shakti Mudra is said to cure insomnia, evoke a deep sense of calmness in the nervous system, and bring forth sensuality and ease.

3. Practice a Divine Feminine Yoga Flow
After chanting the Durga Mantra and performing the Shakti Mudra, you’ll be mindfully and soulfully primed to practice an ultra-releasing, divine feminine yoga flow.
This type of flow is designed to connect your body to the primal and elemental natures of Shakti. It should definitely include famously-feminine asanas like Goddess Pose, Mermaid Pose, Dancer’s Pose, and (of course) Wild Thing!

4. Dance, Baby, Dance
Shake that Shakti right out of your soul!
Shakti Dance is an exciting form of yoga that tunes into the body with flowing movements, powerful breath, guided mantra, and mindfulness. It’s a great way to honor the divine feminine within and awaken your inner goddess, plus it’s upbeat, fluid, and FUN.
That’s not to say that any type of dance won’t do, but why not try out Shakti’s signature style to honor her with like-minded yogis (and look awesome and alive while you do it)?

5. Create, Create, Create
Shakti is the creative energy of the universe. She is the essence of vibrance, luminescence, and desirability. And she fixes herself to what gives you meaning and value.
Is there something you already love to do that makes you feel imaginative and free? Maybe it’s drawing or painting, sculpting, or writing. Perhaps you love to strum on the guitar or crochet beautiful blankets. Any creation counts, as long as it ignites your imaginative fire!

Liberating your Shakti allows you to feel powerful, fierce, unburdened, and original. And once she’s out there, she can’t help but have an impact on everything and everyone she touches.
That’s why it’s your universe-given right (and, dare I say, obligation) to unleash her for the greater good.
You can start small, with simple mudras or private mantras, and then build into an invigorating yoga flow that inspires you to create, to dance, to flow with the rhythm of your own free breath, and to be the you that she uncovers along the way.
Now, that’s what the Universe needs more of.
